SIR MIKE BELEN (502-07) AT 30

IRIGA CITY -- Sir Mike Belen (502-07), former president of Iriga City (KB502)Chapter & incumbent PEC CSur Vice Chairman (5th District) succumbed to death at about 3 in the morning of July 31, 2010 in his hospital bed at the Internal Control Unit (ICU) of Dona Josefa Hospital, this city.

Belen was ambushed by 2 unidentified in a full-faced helmet gunmen riding in a motorcycle at about 9 in the evening, July 9, 2010 in a barangay in Nabua.

According to reports, Belen, after taking off in his duty as radio report of FBN-DWEB FM based in Nabua, rode alone on motorbike in going home at Bgy. Francia, Iriga City.

Turning left from Maharlika Highway in Bgy. San Miguel, Nabua, Belen sensed of a danger when he saw another motorcycle (driver and a backrider) tailing him.

On witnesses accounts, 9 shots were heard and Belen suffered 7 gunshot wounds.  

Several days after waking up, Belen identified the person suspected to the driver of the motorcycle and now, already detained at Nabua PNP)

Being a media practitioner, Sir Mke Belen was even mentioned during the first State of the Nation (SONA) of President Noynoy Aquino last July 26, 2010.

Sir Jennis I. Nidea (30-01), KB Bicol Regional Governor said that "Sir Mike is a big loss to KB Bicol."
